Chalkpit and Pilgrims Way (50m)

A popular Sunday ride route (approx 50 miles) with lots of options of cutting it shorter by heading south from Pilgrims Way over Ide, round or through Sevenoaks.  Do this on a nice day and get great views south from top of the North Downs. Takes in what is my opinion the hardest climb in the area (avg 10% for 1km, 15% of last half!) but then you get great benefit of a long, long descent and with a westerly you find yourself flying along the Pilgrims Way all the way to Wrotham in no time. On a clear day worth taking the left at the top of Chalkpit Lane to the lookout a couple of hundred metres away which has views over the chalkpit right over Kent and Sussex (I have included this on the route). Most of the route is on back roads so not much traffic either. Return from Pilgrims Way via Crouch and Plaxtol. Alernate other nice routes back are via Ightham Mote or if you have more time, via Hadlow and Golden Green.
